The browser extension

The dedoomify extension for Chrome, Edge and Safari collects no data. It has no servers, no analytics, no accounts and no tracking, and it never sends anything over the network.

By default it only runs when you click its button. It then reads the text of the tab you're on, rewrites doom framing about AI with phrase rules built into the extension, and highlights each change, all inside your browser. It uses the activeTab and scripting permissions for this, which let it touch only the tab you clicked it on, only at that moment. Nothing is stored; reloading the page undoes everything.

If you turn on De-doom automatically, the extension asks your browser for access to the sites you visit. With that access, it reads a short sample of each page you open (its title, description and the start of its text) to check, on your device, whether it talks about AI doom, and rewrites the page if it does. The sample and the page are never stored or sent anywhere. Turning the setting off, or removing the extension's site access in your browser, stops this.

The popup's link to dedoomify.com includes the address of the page you're on, so the site can open it. That only happens if you click the link.

The website

When you give dedoomify.com a link, our server (hosted on Vercel) fetches that page, rewrites it with phrase rules and sends it back to you. We don't keep a copy of the page or a record of which pages you asked for. Like most hosts, Vercel keeps short-lived request logs (such as the address requested and your IP address) for operating and securing the service. Rewritten pages in reader view may be cached at Vercel's network for up to a day, without any information about who asked for them.

Page view keeps publisher layout, styles, fonts and static artwork. Videos, scripts and embedded frames are removed. Supported stylesheets, fonts and images are fetched through our server with public-address and redirect checks, so resource hosts see our server's IP address rather than your browser's. Resources may be cached at Vercel's network for up to a day. Opening the original article follows the original site's privacy policy.

To limit abuse, the service temporarily counts requests by client IP address. Application counters expire after one minute, and Vercel also enforces a shared rate limit at its network.

Text you paste is sent to our server to be rewritten with phrase rules, and is not stored.

If you choose the on-device AI option, your browser downloads an open model from Hugging Face (and its runtime files from GitHub), and the AI rewriting happens on your device. Those downloads go to Hugging Face and GitHub under their own policies, and the text you're reading is never sent to them. The page or pasted text still goes through our server first for the phrase rules, as above. The model is saved in your browser's storage so it doesn't download again; clearing site data for dedoomify.com removes it.

The site uses no cookies, analytics or ads. It remembers which rewrite option you picked in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device.
